SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

Congratulations! You have chosen to prepare to have your child baptised. By choosing baptism for your child, they will be open to God’s Grace, experiencing His help and His presence, through the many challenges that life will throw at them. His Holy Spirit can give them a sense of purpose and the courage to change the world around them.

Online enrolment is a 2 step process using the boxes on the right of this page.  Firstly, parents are to register with Flocknote (Step 1).

Following registration with Flocknote, parents are invited to complete the Baptism Enquiry (Step 2).  During the enquiry, you will be asked to upload the following documents –

• child’s birth certificate
• one parent’s Catholic baptism certificate
• one godparent’s baptism certificate
• a permission form will be sent following the enrolment application

For those parishioners with children under primary school age, baptism preparation involves parents attending a session led by Fr Ravi.   This session will be held in the Parish Office, 3 Greenwood Street, Brighton on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 9.30am.

One Godparent is to be 16 years or older, fully initiated into the Catholic Church, ie. who have been baptised, been Confirmed and celebrated 1st Communion.  Baptism certificate for this godparent must be provided.

For parishioners with school age children, parents are still required to attend this session, however the children may also need to be individually prepared before they can proceed to baptism. Simply contact the Parish Office who can advise the best course of action.

On the day of baptism, the family are required to attend the 9am Mass at Sacred Heart Church.  The Rite of Baptism will begin prior to the end of Mass.  Reserved seating will be organised for the family (parents, child being baptised and godparents) in the front row for this Mass.  Each baptism ceremony has a maximum of 4 children at any one time. Please note that unless there are exceptional circumstances, no baptisms take place during Lent. Any children prepared during this period are most welcome to be baptised as part of the Easter Vigil Mass.

​Costs: Baptism preparation fee $100. This fee covers the administration work, Certificate, Candle and the priest’s stipend.

All questions or queries you may have if not included in the above, will be covered at the baptism preparation session.

Replacement Baptism Certificates
To obtain a replacement Baptism Certificate please send an email to the Parish Office sandgatebrighton@bne.catholic.net.au with the following details:

• Your full name
• Your parent’s names
• Your date of birth
• The name of the church where you were baptised
• The date/approximate date of baptism (if known)
• Your contact details – name, phone, email and postal address if you require the certificate to be posted

There is an administrative cost of $20 for issue of the Replacement Certificate.
